An apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse helps balance the pH of your scalp and hair after using a natural shampoo bar, especially if you live in a hard water area or are in the transition period.
Most natural shampoo bars (made via saponification) are mildly alkaline (pH >7, while your scalp and hair prefer a more acidic pH (around 4.5–5.5). An alkaline environment can temporarily raise the hair cuticle, making it feel rough or tangled.
🧪 Why pH matters:
Balancing your hair’s pH:
Smooths the cuticle for shinier, softer hair
Helps detangle and reduce frizz
Supports a healthy scalp barrier
Can reduce itching, dryness, or residue during the adjustment phase
How to use an ACV rinse:
Mix 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water (1:3 ratio works too!)
After shampooing, pour the rinse over your hair (watch your eyes!)
Leave it on for 1–2 minutes, then rinse with water
👉 Don’t worry, the vinegar scent fades as your hair dries.
